I’m a neat freak, love organization and I might be borderline OCD about having my house in order. So yeah, having a baby is definitely testing me. I used to devote an entire Saturday morning to getting the house completely clean and then take time each day to pick up and make sure our house was always tidy. It just made me feel better, completely in control of something since there is so much in this world that I cannot control. Of course there were times I wondered why I did this, especially if we didn’t have plans to have anyone over. But a tidy house helps me relax; I simply cannot sit down and just be still if there is something to be done.
Having a baby has made me have to change things around the house, but I haven’t had to completely abandon my need for a clean house (yeah, yeah all you Moms out there are thinking “just wait until her baby starts playing with toys and crawling everywhere). I would much rather cuddle with Baby K and spend lots of time seeing her smile than spend hours dusting, mopping and vacuuming. I just had to get smart about cleaning each day so I could maintain a neat and tidy house while still spending quality time with my sweet girl.
So I created the below schedule, where I do a little each day instead of having to spend an entire day cleaning the house plus trying to do everything each night. I started by writing down every chore that I needed to get done. I also added a few extra chores that aren’t necessarily cleaning, but that still take up time. Then I tried to look at our general schedule and assign chores for each day. I assigned chores that take more time on the nights when we usually are free and leave the lighter chores for nights when we have commitments. This way, I don’t waste my time doing everything every single night. I can knock out a little bit each day and still maintain some control over my household.

What about you? When do you clean? All in one day or spread out over the week as well? Have you ever tried a schedule like the above? I’d love to hear your thoughts.
I usually clean all in one day. I'm usually able to knock it all out during Christians first nap on Thursdays. I have other chores that I assign to other days of the week. Check out my Monday Madness posts at www.mommysfirstyear.com and you can see my schedule! :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful idea! I'm sure it really does ease your mind to know you're getting everything done at least once a week.
ReplyDeleteOh gosh, I wish I was better about cleaning and being organized, but I'm not! I put things off and then do a few hours at a time and get it all done at once. I am certainly guilty of getting dressed from clean piles of wash that need to be placed... yikes! haha I do use lists like yours when I need to get down to business though!
