Get This Butt In Gear

Thursday, August 1, 2013

If you follow me on instagram, you already know that I just recently had my first post-baby workout. Check out this gem here:

Now before all of my friends start calling me, telling me to take it easy, rest assured I did. I mean, I just had a baby five weeks ago. I walked on the treadmill and did some triceps exercises for this first workout. Once I get the all clear from my doctor to return to more rigorous activity I will up the activity level. And I CANNOT WAIT!

Before I even knew I was pregnant I already hated my body and wanted to lose weight, the same thoughts I have had my entire life. Then at the end of November 2012, two lines appeared on a little stick and all of my weight loss thoughts halted – and I was kind of bummed. Not bummed I was pregnant, but bummed because my battle with the bulge had to be put on hiatus, but for an AMAZING and WONDERFUL reason. Now that my amazing and wonderful gift is here, I am realizing even more how important it is for me to get in shape and be happy with my body. I read this incredible article about Moms thinking they are fat and realized that EVERYTHING I do from here on out will be observed by my sweet daughter. And I do not want her to grow up hating her body and developing a bad body image. I want to be a great role model for her and encourage healthy living (seriously read that article, it’s so true!). Wanting to lead a healthy life for Baby K will be my main focus.

So Tolar and I joined the gym to get our butts in gear!!! And I am going to use this little blog to hold myself accountable. I plan to talk about my journey to weight loss here on Pursuit of Pink occasionally. I feel like if I write down my progress for all of you to see, I will be more inclined to stick with it. And I want you to hold me to it!

I’m sticking with the tried and true calories in, calories out method. I’ve binge dieted before in the past and yes it worked for a few months, but here I am back trying to lose weight again. So this time, I really want to make weight loss a lifestyle. I have my fabulous uncle to thank for inspiring me! And also, Beth over at Hang On, Honey.  Both of these people are committed to working out and maintaining a healthy life and I can use their inspiration to propel me forward.

Now wish me luck! I desperately want to be healthy so I can enjoy a very full life raising my daughter, right alongside Tolar. And I want to love my body so I can teach Baby K to love hers. If you have any favorite exercise/workouts, feel free to leave those in the comments section below.

  1. Good luck to you!! I am starting my own weight loss journey when I return from my vacation next week. I just know I can't do anything will on vacation because I'm out of the country. But I really wanna/need to get my own butt in gear (something I've also been telling myself for many years).

  2. My keys are preparation and make sure you are having fun! I prep all of my lunches and snacks for the week on Sunday so I have no excuses during the week. I like snacks that are easy to pack and go, which make life easier with a little one. There are many great websites with clean eating recipes, needless to say, Pinterest in a great source of information as well. I LOVE the Jamie Eason LiveFit training program from bodybuilding.com. Adding muscle will help your body burn fat, and lifting weights is so much more fun than getting on a treadmill!

  3. Good luck!! I feel like I have tried and tried to get in shape but I just never stay motivated. I know I need to work out and I am almost to the point where I know I have to start working out but again...just not there yet for some reason.

I have to figure that out somehow.

  4. I think we were thinking the same thing, because I posted about re-committing to my health goals today too! At least you have a legitimate reason - that being a BABY GIRL! I'm just lazy and have no will power! We can help each other out! Love you bestie!

  5. You've got this, girlfriend! It's definitely not easy, but hopefully exercising will turn into really great "you" time in the midst of all the new mommy stress. And Baby K is just the most darling little red head I have EVER seen, I loved her new photos! xo

  7. You go girl!! No pain, no gain! I loved training with my trainer. If you and Tolar can do it, try to get couples training 1x per week, for 1 hour. It changed my life. Now I am doing Body Pump, Pilates, Cardio, when last year I couldn't move five minutes without feeling like I would die! You can do it! If you want to come to Body Pump with me one day, you totally can, I can get you a 7-day guest pass and you can come with. :-)
    Love you!
