Last May the coolest art project ever showed up in DuPont
Circle, here in D.C. It was a chalk board with three simple words on it “Before
I Die.” The idea was to get people to leave their thoughts on one thing they
wanted to do before they died.
As you can read from this article here (written by the extremely
talented Maura Judkis), the wall was very popular. Tolar and I visited the wall
and I was just in awe reading what people wrote. There were, of course (sadly),
some crude statements written on the wall, but there were plenty of entries
with people bearing their souls. Things
like “fall in love,” “see someone get cured of AIDS,” “get off drugs,” “forgive
my Dad,” “help a homeless person find a job.” I could go on and on – that wall
and the statements written on it have stuck with me for awhile now. I often
think of the wall when something really cool happens and I think “was this
something that someone would have wanted to do before they died?”
Obviously something
super amazing and cool happened to me almost two months ago (Baby K!!!) and I
have been thinking about the wall again. There is so much that I want to do
before I die, the world offers up limitless possibilities. And I think about
everything I want to do with Baby K. I wonder what type of person she will
become and what she might write on the Before I Die wall if she had the chance.
And then I think about all of you. You come to my blog day
after day (which I am SOOOO thankful for!) and read all about what I think,
what I’m wearing and what I have to say, but I don’t always get to hear from
you on what you want to do. You know,
like your hopes, your dreams, your “before I die” thoughts. So I’m turning
Pursuit of Pink into its own Before I Die wall. What is one thing you want to
do before you die? I find it so inspiring to hear what dreams others have, so
won’t you join me and share what you want to do before you die? Its so simple,
just leave your thoughts in the comment section below. Or tweet me, or facebook me, or e-mail me (lindsay@PursuitofPink.com). Whatever. I would just like to hear from YOU!
Here is my addition to the wall:

The TED Talk that Candy Chang did (creator of the Before I Die Wall) is a must see. We were shown it at a work event, and each of us were given a magnetic "Before I die I want to _______" strip for our offices. I love updating it about once a month. So jealous that you got to see a live installation of one.
ReplyDeleteI was just about to make the same comment as Amy in Austin about the Ted Talk! The artist's comments about the idea is really moving!
ReplyDeleteI want to find a husband who loves The Lord more than me. I feel like when you truly put The Lord first in your relationship then you can overcome anything that comes your way!
