Utensil Drawer Organization

I’m pretty sure that everyone has a utensil drawer in their kitchen that is essentially a catch all drawer. You have your spatulas, your whisks, the all important ice cream scooper and so many other items that you don’t ever know what to do with that you just throw them in your utensil drawer.

My utensil drawer was getting out of control, it was quite crowded and I would sometimes have trouble opening or closing the drawer because items would shift and get too high for the drawer space. So off to Target I went to try and help things out a bit.

Here is a photo of my utensil drawer before I started trying to organize it a bit:

I found these extremely affordable trays at Target that I thought would do just the trick.

Of course, in a perfect world, I would have more drawers in my kitchen, thus giving me multiple utensil drawers to really get things organized and orderly. But alas I’m stuck with what I have. I started by pulling everything out of the drawer and seeing if I really needed each item. I ended up putting several items in my donate pile (it is the start of a new year and I’m on a cleaning purge).

Then I tried to group together like items and placed them in individual trays. I like having the trays because it makes everything a bit easier to find, keeps items from shifting and just gives the drawer a more orderly feel.

I also cleared out a little room in my cutlery drawer and was able to move my wine supplies (from the before photo) up there. Here is a shot of my cutlery drawer:

I'm fairly certain I got the cutlery organizing tray at Target too!

Yes, this process isn't rocket science and people have been organizing for years, but I wanted to give you an idea of how you could start organizing items in your life. I plan to feature more organization posts on here because it is one of my passions (nerd alert!).

So there you have it, a simple trip to Target and $10 later, my drawer isn't so chaotic. We will see how long that lasts. J
