High Five For Friday

Friday, you are so good to me! You keep coming back each and every week.
As is the case most of the time, this week was a douzy for me so I am thrilled that the weekend is finally here.

I’m linking up with Lauren over at From My Grey Desk for this High Five For Friday post.

1.) I posted my nail polish swap on Monday, but there was some confusion over the post date so go check it out today!

2.) While doing a little Christmas shopping at Francesca’s I saw this adorable sign that just made me giggle – because its true!

3.) My sweet dog has been my faithful companion all week while Tolar has been out of town. This is my sweet little JoJo all cuddled up next to me one night while we were relaxing and watching trash on Netflix. (The fun things you do when your husband is away)

4.) This tree is right next to the front door of our house and I adore the color. That is the brightest red ever – gorgeous. Please don’t lose your leaves for a long time, little tree!

5.) I mentioned this earlier (in this post) but I’m so super proud that the theatre’s artwork for A Midsummer Night’s Dream made the December cover of Where magazine. Determination pays off! (what’s that sound you hear? Oh yeah, I’m patting myself on the back.)

I hope you had a great week. See you Monday.

A Must Have Sweater

So you know this sweater that I have here?

Well it is by far one of my greatest purchases. EVERY time I wear it, I feel great since it’s so comfortable and I get TONS of compliments. Which to me makes every purchase worth it. And since I get so many compliments on this sweater, I always kick myself that I didn’t buy the sweater in more colors.

Well Old Navy just added similar sweaters back to their stores and website, so I want to make sure you all know about them! They are sure to sell out again, so snatch them up fast – in multiple colors.

Go to the website here to order yours today. They come in stripes and polka dots. Enjoy!

(And Tolar or Mom - if you are reading this, I'd love the Coral in a size Medium)

Tis the Season to NOT Compare

Comparison is something that plagues me from time to time often and I’m sure even those of you reading this have had to deal with the nasty thoughts of feeling like you don’t measure up to others before. Women especially place so much importance on how others perceive us and we try so desperately to fit in, to be beautiful and thin, to look like we have it all together, to maintain a successful career and we feel we must buy every fabulous thing that all of our friends have. I mean, this country prides itself on the motto “keeping up with the Joneses” so it’s not hard to let the comparison enemy enter our lives.

With Christmas just around the corner, our tvs are overrun with ads for the next big gadget and great buy; we constantly see the “perfect” family depicted and wish our family was as brilliant, fun, put together as the one on tv, and we begin to place ourselves into categories: haves vs. have nots, successful vs. lacking success, happy vs. faking happiness…my list could go on and on. Well I want to tell you all that none of that matters! NONE OF IT! All that matters is that you are uniquely you and Jesus loves you for you. He is the reason for this Christmas season.

Jesus didn’t die to only save Susie who wears a size 2 and has blonde hair. He didn’t go to the cross to only forgive all of the sins of Jack who gets first place in every competition he enters or to save Nancy who can buy her children every toy they want. No, Jesus died for ALL of us! He died to save us. He loves us the way we are, He wants us to be completely in love with ourselves too. As a Christian, I find my worth in God, in knowing that He loved me so much (all the messiness of my life and all) that He sent His only son to the cross to save me! And He did the same for you too. We don’t need to compare ourselves to others because if the world was full of people who looked and acted just like us, we would probably annoy everyone and the world would be pretty boring. We all bring something unique and wonderful to the world.

I came across a great verse that really hit home to me:  “Pay careful attention to your own work, for then you will get the satisfaction of a job well done, and you won’t need to compare yourself to anyone else.” ~Galatians 6:4 This verse can apply to our daily lives, not just our work lives. The bible clearly instructs us to not compare ourselves to others. The work we do is enough. It matters to Jesus and it should matter to you too. We need to get our eyes (and minds) off of other people around us and focus on what we can do, what God equipped us with and use that! He’s crazy about you after all.

I hope you find some comfort in this blog post today. Thanks for letting me go a little deeper and share what is on my heart. If you have any encouraging scriptures or quotes, I’d love to hear them; leave them in the comment section below.

Photo Time!

Just in time for the holidays, Tolar and I scheduled a photo session with a very talented photographer here in the Northern VA/D.C. area, Heather Bee Photography. Lucky us, Heather also happens to be our friend!

We have watched Heather grow her passion into a super successful business and it has been awesome to see her flourish. She is always in high demand for weddings, babies, engagements and other family photos. So of course I was thrilled when we could find a weekend that worked for both us and Heather. You must check out these shots below. Heather is good! Better than good – she has an amazing eye to capture the beauty of everything. If you are in the area, please look her up for your next big event. I promise you won’t be sorry. You will only end up with amazing photos that you will cherish forever.

For our photo session, we went down to the Lincoln Memorial to take some iconic D.C. shots. I’m totally planning to use these for our Christmas cards this year.

To check out Heather’s website and blog, click here. Get in contact early, because like I said she is amazing and she will book up fast. But oh how lucky you will be when you book a session with her.

Nail Polish Swap Round 2

Some super awesome bloggers, Carly (Lipgloss and Crayons) and Rachel (LaLa Lists), decided to host another nail polish swap and since I had so much fun the first time, I decided to sign up again. There were an odd number of bloggers who participated in the swap, so I got partnered up for a triple swap!

This meant that I sent polishes to Rachel, Rachel to Brighton and Brighton to me. Here is what Brighton sent me:

Brighton blogs over at dear Brighton and she might have gotten a little clue into what I like by scouring my blog looking for my interests. J But seriously, Brighton nailed my selections perfectly (pun intended). I used the pink color on all of my nails and painted the purple glitter on my ring fingers for an accent nail. I love the final results. So girly and sparkly!

And check out the packaging too – super cute.  I MUST find some of that pink polka dot tape!

I was super nervous about sending a package to Rachel because the girl has awesome taste in polishes and experiments with some pretty cool designs (and duh - she was one of the hosts of the swap!). Check out this link for more info on her cool manicures. But alas, I was inspired by the upcoming holidays and sent her some sparkles and some metallics. Click here to head over to LaLa Lists to see what I sent Rachel.

Happy nail painting everyone!

High Five For Friday

I hope everyone had a terrific Thanksgiving and that you get today off work. There is one thing better than Friday and that is a Friday when you don’t have to work!

Here my top five moments from this week. I’m linking up with Lauren who blogs over at From My Grey Desk for this High Five For Friday post.

1.) As you already know from this post, I spent a long weekend with my sister and her family. My sister’s sweet dog Madison is already looking after her little brother. Check out this shot I got while my nephew was in his swing. Madison just wanted to keep an eye on him and make sure he was alright.

2.) I couldn't resist buying this Santa suit for my cutie pie nephew. Too bad I’m not going to be with them for Christmas. L My sister will just have to send me TONS of pictures of my little bug in this cute suit.

3.) During a stressful week, there seems to be only one cure: frozen yogurt!

4.) I had a blogging dream come true when I got to guest blog on Cori’s site, La Vie Petite. Cori is one of my favorite bloggers and I've been following her blog for awhile, so I couldn't believe how lucky I was when I got to guest post. Thanks again Cori!!

5.) The best parents in the world came up to spend Thanksgiving with Tolar and I. They will be here all weekend, I’m so excited to get to spend 4 days with them – lots of laughs will be had.

What was your favorite moment from your week? Leave a note in the comments section below, I’d love to hear about your awesome week too.

A Little Bit of Boot Love

So you probably already know from this post that I am loving knee high boots this season.  But what you don’t know is that I didn't expect to fall in love with a pair of amazing boots that don’t have a high heel!

A few weeks ago, my friend Melissa asked me to blog about flat shoes that she could wear this winter; shoes that were easy to slip on and comfortable, but still looked cute. And since she is a busy mom to two lovely little girls, she needed them to be flat shoes. I told her I had to do some research since flats were a new thing for me (but they are becoming my norm!) and without even realizing it I happened upon the answer.

[find the shoes here]

Boots are extremely warm and as we approach the winter months, something to keep our tootsies warm is a must! Plus, these boots have so much room; they are super easy to slip on. And they are quite possibly the most comfortable pair of shoes I own that aren't tennis shoes. Another one of Melissa’s requests – something that didn't break the bank. These puppies are from Target and only set me back about $35!!!! (although the link above has them for $28, so hurry!) Super score.

I wear these boots over skinny jeans or even with skirts. They are super versatile and go with so many items in my closet. And if you read my guest post on La Vie Petite yesterday, you saw that you CAN mix black and brown.
Cardigan: Zara. T-Shirt: Old Navy. Jeans: Macy's. Boots: Target. Necklace: New York & Company.

So there you have it, run to Target and snatch yourself up a pair.

Peanut Butter Pie

[Before you get into the deliciousness that is below, stop by La Vie Petite to see my guest blog post from today!]

With Thanksgiving only two days away, I hope everyone has their menus ready to go. In case you need a little inspiration for dessert, here is my absolute favorite peanut butter pie recipe that my Mimi used to make all the time. Because pumpkin pie is so last year.

[via]
It's funny, in my family we only make this recipe around the holidays even though it's super easy to make. And I'm kind of appalled with myself that I haven't made it at other times during the year because peanut butter is my fave.  It deserves it's own food group (I'm the person who eats PB straight from the jar - its so good).

So here is everything you need:
8 oz. Cool Whip
1 cup Powdered Sugar
3 oz. Cream Cheese, softened
1/2 cup Peanut Butter
Pre-made Oreo or Graham Cracker Crust

Just mix all of the ingredients together and spread into a pre-made Oreo crust (just like Sandra Lee on Semi Homemade). Then chill overnight (or at least 2 hours) and prepare yourself to devour it. Because you will, it's super yummy. If you don't devour it, call me and I'll come help!

Good luck with preparing the rest of your yummy Thanksgiving feast.

Long Weekend Snuggles

My weekend is not quite over and that makes me very happy. I am still down in South Carolina visiting my sister, brother in law and adorable 2 month old nephew. I do have to fly home later today, but before that I'm going to soak up all the snuggles, kisses and smiles that I can.

I've spent the weekend playing with the little bug, holding him, feeding him, changing him, kissing him, rocking him to sleep (best moment of the weekend) and letting my heart melt into a huge puddle on the floor. It has been so nice to get away from the stresses of my daily life and just spend three days concentrating on what REALLY matters in life...Family. The only thing that would make this weekend perfect would be to have Tolar and my parents here to experience it with me.

My sister and brother in law are SUPER parents, like total pros. They taught me so much about caring for baby, it was definitely a boot camp weekend for me. I won't bore you with many more words, I'll just let you ohh and ahh over the cute little bug that I get to call my nephew.

Super Smart Kid

And since it's Monday and I have so much adorableness to share, I decided to link up with Carly and Molly for YOLO Monday.

High Five For Friday

Ah Friday! What a glorious day. I hope everyone has had a good week, mine has been jam packed (mostly with work) and I’m ready for the weekend. Refer to item #2 below to see why I’m really ready for the weekend.

As usual, I’m linking up with the lovely Lauren who blogs over at From My Grey Desk for this High Five For Friday post.

1.) As I said last week, our church hosted a 24 hour prayer and worship event. Tolar played for 5 different sets! He’s kind of a rock star! I went with him to the session from 1 a.m. – 3 a.m. and had the awesome opportunity to pray for the men of DC Metro Church.  The whole experience was incredible. And it was so good to see Tolar playing with his buddies again.

2.) My amazing nephew turned 2 months old!!! I cannot believe time is flying by so quickly. I leave tomorrow to go visit him and his fab parents for a long weekend. I promise there will be tons of pictures when I get back.

3.) My oldest friend is getting married! Tolar and I went to the engagement party for our dear friends Kate and John. Kate is my oldest friend – we’ve known each other since we were four years old. She is way more than a friend to me, she’s family. I’m so happy she found her prince charming.

4.) I participated in an instagram contest for Le Mode Accessories and I was one of the lucky winners. I won a cute bracelet with a ribbon charm. Plus they sent it in a cute little box with a hand written note. I love receiving and sending actual pen to paper notes!

5.) Yes this week has been filled with work events, but I’m oh so proud of the amazing work we are doing at the Shakespeare Theatre Company. This is a picture of the artwork we are using to promote our current show, A Midsummer Night’s Dream. And I’m extra proud because this artwork is everywhere – including the cover of the December issue of Where magazine that yours truly took care of securing!

So those were some of my favorite highlights from the week…what about you?
