Tolar (the
husband) and I moved into our first home in June 2011. It’s a cute, three level
townhouse with three bedrooms, although we only use two as bedrooms–the third
is my office. One of the things I desperately wanted when we bought the house
was a guest bedroom as I have never had one since I left my parents house to
start my college/adult life. I’ve always either had roommates or a one bedroom
apartment, so I was ready for a guest bedroom where my family and friends could
actually spend the night with me and not have to sleep on the couch (or in the
closet as my Dad once did,
but that’s a different story!).
I’m in the
process of decorating the house and making it a home and I will share photos on
here from time to time of our house during that process. Let’s start with the
guest room. We were lucky enough to receive furniture from Tolar’s Grandma to
outfit the bedroom (thank you Grandma!!!!). While we are so thankful for the
furniture, we decided to spruce it up a bit by painting the dresser and
nightstand and saying goodbye to the headboard/footboard.
Here is a before
photo of the guest bedroom, unfortunately, it’s the only shot I got when we
first moved in.
Tolar was
fabulous and took it upon himself to paint the furniture for us. Here is the
finished nightstand in ultra white (since you can at least
compare this to the before photo).
And here is a
shot of the dresser in all its new paint glory.
To accessorize
the room, I added a few touches of green and gray to match the bedspread:
the green water pitcher vase on the dresser
and I bought a super cool wall decal from Wallums. (trying
to inspire my guests!)
And finally, we
spray painted our floor lamp black and bought a gray lampshade to pull
everything together.
Of course,
nothing is ever complete…we still have plans to paint the bedroom walls and
hang a mirror above the dresser. And I will always be on the lookout for more accessories, Home Goods-I'm looking at you!
